What is the approximate distance between access points and their density in the RealTrac local positioning system?

The distance between access points is measured on a case-by-case basis. It may vary with each specific type of obstruction (wall, ceiling, floor, etc.).

Empirical averages, however, can be used to measure the approximate distance – they are shown in the table below.

Stable communication range between access points

up to 1500 meters (line of sight),

50-70 meters (indoors, through 2-3 walls)

Stable communication range between an access point and a mobile radio center

up to 400 meters (line of sight),

up to 50 meters (indoors, through 2-3 walls)

Access point density

≈1unit/400 sq.m. (indoors)

≈1unit/3000 sq.m. (outdoors)
