Application Programming Interface (API) in the RealTrac system
The RealTrac system supports an API for the RLTC protocol. RLTC runs over HTTPS and lets you retrieve data and perform basic operations with the RealTrac system through requests and responses. This makes the protocol fully cross-platform: it places no restrictions on the client software platform.
Basic RLTC operations include retrieving lists of mobile and fixed devices, device status information (ONLINE, OFFLINE, etc.), mobile device location data, room geometry data and more.
The RLTC protocol provides the core functionality of the RealTrac system. The application server implements application-level functionality that uses and extends the core: all kinds of reports, long-term storage and processing of history, and more. The application server also acts as a caching proxy server.
The RLTC protocol has two subsets
RLTC REST API
Synchronous resources.
RLTC WebSocket API
Streaming data.
The RealTrac server has a built-in system for documenting data exchange formats. To get the full list of resources available on the server, send an HTTPS OPTIONS request to the server root URL. To get the data exchange format of a specific resource, send an OPTIONS request to its URL: the response contains a data block with the input and output data formats and the list of aliases the resource supports.
The current RealTrac server implementation supports HTTPS with one-way or two-way authentication, which protects the data transmitted over the network.
